Technology is required for 21st Century classrooms to provide learning enrichment that will be competitive and useful in the futures of young people. Hawthorn Elementary utilizes technology throughout each day in every capacity. It is incorporated learning across the curriculum and grade levels based upon NETS (National Education Technology Standards). The computer lab is an open schedule for any class to use at anytime, for any length of time. The idea behind an "open schedule" concept is to encourage ongoing digital learning, project research/implementation, and technology engagement. Students will learn about Microsoft Outlook, Digital Citizenship, blogging, Microsoft Office Suite and many other interactive web tools.
The computer lab is equipped with 30 multimedia computers, all loaded with the most current operating system/software (Windows 7 and Office 10). Each classroom has been equipped with computers (two terminals in each Kindergarten through second grades; 6-12 wireless laptops in each third through fifth grades). These multimedia computers are an essential part of the interactive technology learning process at Hawthorn.
