Mrs. Hemaya started her career in Park Hill in 1991 as a 5th grade teacher at Graden Elementary. She taught 5th grade for 5 years and then taught 4th grade for 5 years before moving to Lakeview as Assistant Principal. She spent 8 years in this position and is very excited and honored to be the current Principal of Hawthorn. Mrs. Hemaya likes being a principal because she loves helping students, forming relationships with them and seeing them grow both intellectually and emotionally. She is excited for a wonderful year with many success stories.
Mrs. Hemaya received the following degrees, a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from the University of Northern Iowa, a Master’s in Education from Webster University, and an Educational Specialist’s in Administration from University of Missouri, KC. She continues to be a lifelong learner by attending various workshops and trainings to keep up to date on the latest research and trends in education.
When Mrs. Hemaya is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family. She has a wonderful, supportive husband, Sherif as well as two beautiful daughters, Jordan, 14 and Justine, 11.
