Community Engagement
Building Community Engagement
Within our 2023-2028 Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP), the Culture objective includes a strategy around continuing to build community engagement.
Strategy 6: Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to increase community engagement.
What Engagement Means in Park Hill
The team first considered what engagement means to the Park Hill community. The following considerations were identified.
- Desire for all people to be involved and connected to Park Hill School District, in whatever way provides meaning and authenticity to our individual stakeholders.
- Need for two-way sharing, ensuring the feedback loop is used.
- Provide multiple avenues and opportunities for people to feel engaged in a way that works for them.
- Provide purposeful engagement focusing on an end goal or need.
- Capitalize on vested interests.
- Ensure the focus for engagement benefits student learning and their education.
- Consider events versus content/topics that drive different types of engagement.
- Consider barriers to participation and engagement, including language barriers.
Considerations
The team then considered what an engagement plan would need to include. The following considerations were identified.
- Identifying locations, venues, spaces for engagement.
- Identifying audiences.
- Having purpose and goal statements, as tied back to the CSIP.
- Implementing, deploying and communicating engagement opportunities.
- Considering how it looks different among grade levels (elementary, middle school, high school, pre-k).
- Accountability, measuring and reflecting on what works and what doesn’t.
- Measuring quality and quantity of engagement.
- Including personal connection.
- Being thoughtful and prioritizing time to be considerate of our audience.
- Providing protocols for how feedback is gathered, and discussions are structured.
