School-Year Calendar

The Park Hill Board of Education approves the academic calendar each January, based on the recommendation of the district Calendar Committee. If the district cancels school for snow days, students will make up those days at the end of the year.

About the Calendar

Who determines what the calendar looks like?
The Board of Education makes the final decision, but the Calendar Committee develops the calendar. The Board appoints individuals to serve on the calendar committee. The committee includes teachers, parents, support staff and administrators. Members serve three-year terms.

When does the final decision on the school calendar take place?
The calendar committee starts meeting in the fall. The committee usually makes a recommendation to the Board in December, and the Board usually makes its final decision in January. Park Hill is usually the first district in the area to complete its calendar.

What are the Calendar Committee's top priorities for designing the calendar?
The Calendar Committee makes its decision with three main priorities in mind:

  1. The calendar should support instruction and assessment for students;
  2. The calendar should reflect the desires of parents and the community; and
  3. The calendar should represent the interests of Park Hill employees.
