Welcome to Kindergarten

We have important information for you if you have children starting kindergarten this August. Children who turn five on or before July 31 are eligible for kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year.
Enroll your kindergartener beginning April 6 in Infinite Campus. Our enrollment page has more information.
Then check out our guide below to get ready for our first day of school on Monday, Aug. 24.

Kindergarten Readiness Guide
Helping your child practice independence, routines, and play at home is a great way to get them ready for kindergarten. While we focus on academics at school, you can use these tips to help your child feel confident and successful from day one.
Independence
Children who can manage their own physical needs are more confident and ready to learn.
- Clothing Challenge: Practice zipping jackets, buttoning pants, and putting on shoes (bonus points for mastering the "left" and "right" feet!).
- Bathroom Pro: Make sure your child can use the restroom, wipe, and wash their hands without help.
- Cafeteria Prep: Practice scooping food, using tongs and opening their own juice boxes, fruit cups, cheese sticks and snack bags. It’s a busy room, and they’ll feel great knowing they can fuel up on their own!
Social Readiness
At home, you are your child's first social coach. Praise effort, not just success.
- Secret Missions: Give 2 or 3-step tasks: "Put your shoes away, grab your sweatshirt, and meet me at the door." This will help them follow the steps in classroom directions.
- Practice Taking Turns: Try a simple game that lets students practice winning and losing gracefully, or simply take turns sharing stories and listening during dinner.
Literacy & Language
You don't need flashcards, you just need a few books and some conversation!
- Practice Makes Perfect: Reread their favorite stories. Knowing what happens next builds a deep understanding of how books work.
- Rhyme Time: While driving or walking, make up rhymes. "The cat sat on a... bat! Hat! Flat!" This helps them hear the different sounds in words.
- Name Spotting: Point out their name on mail or labels around the house. Help them recognize those specific letters so they can find their own cubby or desk at school.
Using Tools
Build hand strength through play to help your child feel ready for writing and drawing.
- Writing & Drawing: To help them hold a pencil correctly, use small tools! Break crayons or pencils in half or use short golf pencils. Smaller tools naturally force the thumb and fingers to "pinch" instead of "grab." Use sidewalk chalk to practice these skills outside, as well!
- Scissor Practice: Let them cut up old junk mail, coupons, or "snakes" made of playdough. It’s great for hand-eye coordination! Encourage your child to use children’s scissors to cut along lines and curves.
- Glue Work: Using glue bottles or sticks is a workout for little hands. Let them experiment with using pressure to apply glue and "just a dot" of glue on paper.
