Online Learning

Questions to ask yourself to determine whether your child should be an online student:

• Has your child demonstrated time-management skills that show they can submit assignments and complete course requirements without reminders? 
• Has your child demonstrated persistence in overcoming obstacles when learning becomes difficult? 
• Does your child ask for help when they need it, and do they have communication skills to be able to let an instructor know when they do not understand? 
• Does your child have the necessary computer or technical skills to succeed in a virtual course? 
• Has your child previously attempted a virtual course and struggled with or failed the class? If so, have the issues that caused your child to struggle or fail been identified and addressed?

As of August 2023, Park Hill no longer offers full-time online services. While the district no longer provides services for full-time online learners, families are welcome to enroll through a Missouri Course Access Program (MOCAP) online vendor. Enrollment with an approved state vendor is paid by the state and free to the family. As outlined in Missouri House Bill 1552, students who enroll as a full-time online student with a MOCAP vendor will no longer be enrolled in the Park Hill School District.

Park Hill offers a variety of high school online courses taught by Park Hill teachers to allow part-time  scheduling flexibility (ex. one online course and three in-person courses per semester). In addition, Park Hill partners with providers Imagine Learning-Edgenuity and Launch to meet part-time online learning needs for high school students. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education vets and approves courses provided by Imagine Learning-Edgenuity and Launch; these courses do not have Park Hill teachers or the Park Hill curriculum.

Online learning experience 
Students can expect to spend an average of 70 minutes a day on coursework per course. Classes are self-paced and students may access their classes at any time of the day, seven days a week. Some vendors offer live learning sessions and students wishing to interact face-to-face with a teacher should select a vendor with this option.

Technology devices 
Park Hill will provide district-issued laptops for learning and communication. Students may take courses from any internet-connected computer. 

Progress and grade reports 
Students who select online learning will receive grade updates from their selected vendor.

Schedule Changes
Park Hill students enrolled in an online course that do not make adequate progress within 10 days of the term will be dropped from the online courses and enrolled in person. Likewise, after an initial 10 day grace period, schedule changes will not be accepted and students will need to remain in the online course(s) the remainder of a term unless approved by administration. 

District and state assessments 
Students who choose online learning will take all district and state assessments for their grade level. Students might be required to test in-person at a district site to ensure test security and follow that test's protocol. 

MSHSAA athletics and activities  
All eligible students may participate in MSHSAA athletics and activities. Students should verify enrollment and requirements with their school counselor. 

Any student interested in taking an online course should discuss this option with his/her counselor. Enrollment in an online course will take place through the regular course selection process.

The Park Hill School District process for a student wishing to become a part-time Park Hill online student is outlined below. Park Hill online learners will attend classes provided by Park Hill or be partner vendors, Edgenuity or Launch.

1. Students select the Park Hill online course offerings when possible. These courses are taught by Park Hill teachers and are NCAA approved. Park Hill courses align with the face-to-face equivalent courses and have been developed by district content experts. 
    
2. If a student needs a course outside of the district and the course is part of the student's four-year plan, the student may select a course offering from the course catalogs of preferred online partner vendors: Imagine Learning-Edgenuity and/or Launch. All courses will be taught by a certified Missouri instructor. 
    
3. If a course is not provided by Park Hill, Imagine Learning-Edgenuity, or Launch, the school counseling team and district online learning program facilitator will determine the best course(s) and vendor offered by MOCAP and provide enrollment if possible. Students enrolled online may not change providers in the middle of a term.
