Park Hill Prepares for Winter Weather
This is the image for the news article titled Park Hill Prepares for Winter WeatherWith winter weather approaching, we're making sure we're prepared to keep students safe.

Please make sure your children come to school dressed for the weather, with winter coats, hats and gloves when necessary.

Extra Precautions for Schools

Please remember that we will continue to monitor the temperatures and wind chill index in case we need to make any further adjustments.
  • Buses: We start our buses around 5 a.m. to make sure the engines start and the buses are ready to pick up students.
  • Schools: We either run the heating system overnight or program it to come on early to make sure we are prepared for students.

  • Recess: When children arrive at school, we'll keep them inside. We make sure to keep students indoors for recesses and physical education classes when temperatures or wind chill are 20 degrees or below and the playground is not cleared of snow and ice.

Considerations for Families

Keep students warm: If your student rides a bus, you might coordinate with other trusted families to provide children a warm car to wait in until the school bus arrives. If your child walks to school, it's a good idea to coordinate arrangements for a ride when the weather is so cold.

Although it is important that students be in school, safety is the most important concern of all. If snow, ice or extreme cold make conditions unsafe, we will cancel school. If needed, we will make up the first snow day on Presidents Day, Feb. 17, 2020. If needed, we will make up the next snow day on the teacher work day on March 13, 2020, before we add days to the end of the school year. Parents asked us to build in snow days to the calendar.

If we cancel school, we will get you that information through text alerts, our email newsletter, our websites, Facebook, Twitter, Park Hill TV and the local media.

Child Care and District Programs

If we cancel school, our school-age child care and tuition preschool programs would remain open for those families that are already signed up. However, our Community Education classes would be cancelled, and our Aquatic Center would be closed.
